While NA has no opinion on outside issues (our Tenth Tradition), we are recently seeing an increase in the temporary closing of various facilities where NA meetings happen within the Down East Area of NA. The Down East Area of NA includes NA meetings in the following North Carolina cities: Alliance, Ayden, Goldsboro, Greenville, Hookerton, Kinston, Macclesfield, Morehead City, New Bern, Pinetops, Swansboro, Tarboro, Washington, and Winterville.
This means that those who will attempt to attend an NA meeting in the coming weeks should be prepared for meeting closures and/or temporarily relocated meetings.
Here are some suggestions, for those attending or seeking NA meetings and their supporters, during this time:
Use the online meeting list – NOT the printed list.
The online meeting list for Down East Area meetings (http://dea-na.org/meeting-schedule) will be kept up to date at all times, based reported closures and temporary locations. Meetings that are closed until further notice will have the text (Temporarily Closed) beside their group name.
Report any facility closing and re-openings where a NA meeting(s) is held.
Help the Down East Area of NA service committee keep the online meeting list up to date. If you know of a facility closing that will impact one or more meetings then call our Area hotline at 1-866-321-1631, or email us at email@example.com.
NA members can share this information during the announcements portion at the meetings where possible, and also share directly with their network of other NA members.
Non-members who share information about NA (loved ones, treatment facilities that recommend NA to their clients, etc.) can share this information with anyone considering attending an NA meeting as well as their peers.
Alternatives to regularly scheduled meetings.
Phone meetings and online meetings are available. See the ‘Helpful Links’ section at the bottom of this page for more info. NA members can also increase use of some of the other NA suggestions, including but not limited to calling other NA members and reading NA literature.
